CBYC COMMUNITY MURAL PROJECT
About the Project
In spring 2026, artist Josh Harnack will create a series of large-scale public murals on the Chantal Bérubé Youth Centre in Beaumont. Rooted in community engagement, this project invites local residents and youth to help shape the mural’s themes and imagery. Through an open community engagement night and a series of creative workshops for youth ages 12–17, participants will share ideas, stories, and artwork that will directly influence the final mural design. The result will be a vibrant, whimsical mural that reflects the voices, creativity, and spirit of Beaumont’s youth—transforming the Youth Centre into a landmark shaped by the community it serves.

About the Artist
"Hey, my name is Josh Harnack. I’m an Edmonton-based artist and muralist, and I’m excited to bring new life to the walls of the Chantal Bérubé Youth Centre this May.
A core part of my artistic practice is service. I believe art exists not only to be looked at, but to uplift, surprise, and actively serve the community it lives within. For me, art is about relationships — with ourselves, with each other, and with the world around us.
Every artwork, whether created for an individual or a large public space, creates a shared connection between people and place. These connections form a kind of lasting bond — a collective value built through creativity, care, and collaboration.
My hope is that the mural becomes more than just a piece of public art, it becomes a shared achievement that people feel connected to, proud of, and invested in.
I encourage everyone to join me on January 26 for the open introduction and brainstorming session."
