Salvaged from a forgotten seascape, this painting is now a portal to the in-between: the place where strange creatures breach the waves beneath a sky raining fire. A whimsical sea monster takes center stage, its joy oddly at odds with the chaos surrounding it. Anchoring the madness is Harnack’s recurring symbol — a lone hot air balloon drifting above it all, representing both escape and surrender.
